Web Design & Development

Indigenous PEI

Indigenous PEI is the home of the Indigenous Tourism Association of Prince Edward Island, sharing the culture, artisans and experiences of the Epekwitnewaq Mi’kmaq and the many Indigenous peoples who call Epekwitk home. We designed and developed a website that invites visitors to connect, explore and plan their time on the Island.

Project Details

Indigenous PEI brings together dozens of artisans, guides, performers and Indigenous-led businesses, along with festivals and events throughout the year. The website needed to welcome visitors with a strong sense of place while making it easy to find a hands-on experience, an artist or an event. We built it around a filterable directory of things to do, a festivals and events calendar and a visual mega menu, with member listings and event submissions handled through a members' login portal and an Indigenous PEI Store section that connects visitors to the Charlottetown storefront and online shop.

Things To Do Directory

The Things To Do directory brings artisans, culinary experiences, performances, nature outings and hands-on experiences into one searchable place. Visitors can filter by category, region of the Island and tags, and each listing has its own page with a story, photos, location, contact details and links, plus suggestions for similar experiences to explore next.

Visual Mega Menu

A photo-led mega menu turns navigation into an invitation. Hovering Things To Do opens a panel of image tiles for Arts & Culture, Hands On Experiences, Artists, Nature & Exploring, Culinary and Events & Performances, so visitors can jump straight into the kind of experience that speaks to them.

Festivals & Events

Festivals and events, from Mawiomi gatherings to artisan markets and National Indigenous Peoples Day, live in a dedicated calendar with calendar and grid views and filters by date, category and location. Every event has its own page with the date, location and details, and members can submit their own events through the portal.

Indigenous PEI Store

The Indigenous PEI Store section introduces the year-round storefront on Grafton Street in Charlottetown, with hours, what visitors will find in store and the story behind it, and connects shoppers to the online store and gift cards so they can support Indigenous artisans from anywhere.

Mobile-First

Many visitors plan on the go, so every page is designed for phones first. The directory filters tuck into a single button, listing and event pages stay easy to read, and contact details, directions and store information are always a tap away.
